Source: Massive explosion in Beirut | DW NewsThe world mourns as fire flames and a gigantic resonance from a massive explosion (which is believed to have been caused by fire from a warehouse) claimed the lives of more than 75 and severely injured about 3,000 people in a port in Beirut, Lebanon's capital, on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.
According to reports from some eyewitnesses and the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, the force of the destructive wave of the highly compressed air spreading outwards from the explosion was a 3.5 magnitude earthquake. This was powerful enough to completely crush buildings or break and flip vehicles which were about 10 Kilometers from the scene. The impact could even be felt by cities, states or other countries which are about 200 kilometers away from the incident.
Although the actual cause of the explosion is still not known, the Lebanese government has opened an investigation on the case. Besides this, world-wishers across the world have taken their condolences to social media to express their sympathy to the families affected.
